Volume Profile (Visible Range)#
A horizontal histogram of how much volume traded at each price across the candles on screen, with the Point of Control and Value Area marked. It recomputes as you pan and zoom.

What it shows#
The profile takes the candles inside your current view, splits their price range into rows, and sizes each row by the volume attributed to it. Each candle's volume is spread evenly across the rows its range covered, the standard visible-range method. Each bar is split into up and down volume by whether the candle closed above or below its open. On top it marks the Point of Control (the busiest price) and the Value Area (the band around the Point of Control holding 70% of the volume by default) with its high and low.
How to read it#
The Point of Control is the fairest price for the window, and traders treat it as a magnet and as support or resistance. The Value Area frames where most business happened. Price inside it suggests balance, and a break and acceptance outside it suggests a trend. Thick bars mark prices the market defended and is likely to stall at, while thin bars mark prices it moved through fast and tends to move through fast again. Because it is visible-range, zoom out for higher-timeframe structure or into a swing for the intraday picture.
Settings#
- Row Count. How many price buckets span the range. More rows give finer resolution but noisier bars.
- Value Area %. The share of volume the Value Area encloses around the Point of Control.
- Placement and Profile Width. Which edge the bars hug and how far they extend.
- Opacity and toggles. Dim the bars outside the Value Area, and show or hide the Point of Control line, the value-area band, and its boundary lines.
The profile is built from the candles the chart is showing, so it reflects that feed's volume rather than consolidated cross-exchange volume. The up and down split is based on each candle's close versus open, not real buy-versus-sell taker volume. For true taker flow use Footprint or the order-flow tools.
